The Waiting Game—Why I'm Not Buying Yet (April 2025)
I've done the research. I've done the math. I've had the conversation with my wife.
Everything says I should buy a laser engraver right now.
But I'm not. And here's why.
The Problem With Laser Engravers Right Now
I've been researching machines for months. And honestly? Most of the options suck.
The cheap ones ($300-$500) are garbage. They break. They have terrible customer support. People online are constantly complaining about them.
The professional ones ($5,000+) are out of my budget. I'm not dropping that kind of money on a side hustle that might fail.
The mid-range ones ($1,500-$2,500) are... okay. But they're all basically the same machine with different branding. And customer support is hit or miss.
I keep waiting for something better. Something that actually works. Something that's worth the investment.
Then I Heard About the Creat Lumos
A few weeks ago, I stumbled on a post about a new portable laser engraver called the Creat Lumos.
It's being designed by a company that actually listens to users. They're taking pre-orders. They're promising better build quality, better software, better support.
It sounds too good to be true. But the specs look solid. The price point is right ($2,000-$2,500). And people are hyped about it.
The catch? It won't be available until summer 2025. Deposits start in late June.
Why I'm Waiting
I could buy one of the existing machines right now. I have the money saved. I could start today.
But I'm going to wait.
Here's my logic:
Better machine = better results = better products = better sales.
If I buy a cheap machine now and it breaks in 6 months, I've wasted time and money. If I wait 3 months for the Creat Lumos and it's actually good, I'm ahead long-term.
Plus, I'm not sitting idle. I'm still preparing:
-
Setting up the LLC
-
Building the website
-
Designing products
-
Learning design software
-
Researching materials and suppliers
When the Creat Lumos arrives, I'll be ready to hit the ground running.
The Risk of Waiting
What if the Creat Lumos is overhyped? What if it's actually terrible?
Then I'll have wasted 3 months waiting for nothing.
But I'm willing to take that risk. Because I'd rather wait for something good than buy something mediocre and regret it.
My Timeline
April-June 2025: Finish LLC setup, build website, design products, prepare everything.
Late June 2025: Place deposit on Creat Lumos.
Summer 2025: Receive the machine, run tests, dial in settings.
Fall 2025: Launch CRAFTURE officially.
It's not the fastest timeline. But it's the smart one.
What's Next
I'm going to keep researching. I'm going to watch for reviews of the Creat Lumos. I'm going to prepare everything else.
And in late June, I'm placing that deposit.
Next post: Setting up the LLC—making CRAFTURE official.
